In the 1970's, Peg Hansen dreamed of forming an open group that would welcome all types of rug hookers and rug hooking. With the help of many forward thinking women, Peg's vision evolved into the creation of The Association of Traditional Hooking Artists (ATHA), an organization that is dedicated to promoting the art of rug hooking in all of its forms.
Today we are comprised of 4000 passionate and committed fiber artists. No matter what aspect of rug hooking excites you, be it working in a primitive or fine style, using a punch needle, incorporating materials other than wool into your work, combining techniques such as rug hooking and needle felting or braiding, we at ATHA support you and welcome you with open arms. We are a meeting place where traditional rug hooking can mix with innovative, exciting new trends.
Our job is to listen to our members, support their ideas, and respond to their needs. Because we listen to you, we know that what we need most, right now, is an interactive web site that will serve as both a resource and a tool. This new site will allow for an exchange of ideas that will keep you abreast of the latest resources available to you in this ever changing art form.
The inspiration that provides you with the knowledge and courage to take the next step on your personal creative journey may well be found here! We truly believe the creativity of our members, with their broad and diverse skills and experience, will inspire you.
