We are pleased to welcome you to our ATHA Website. On the left hand side of this page you will find a number of key words which will guide you to information about our ATHA organization.

The 2004-2005 year marked the 25th Anniversary of ATHA. Throughout this time, we featured many articles about the founding of ATHA. We celebrated those individuals who had a vision of a North American Rug Hooking Association.

Association of Traditional Hooking Artists

We will follow their progress from an informational meeting with 28 attendees, through 25 years of growth; resulting in an International Rug Hooking Association with a membership of 3500 residing in the United States, Canada, England, Wales, Germany, Denmark, Japan, Israel, and Russia.

Our ATHA Newsletter is printed six times per year and mailed to members. The newsletter contains the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of rug hooking.

The goal of publishing both the ATHA Newsletter and this ATHA Website is to inform and educate members and, soon-to-be members about rug hooking happenings around the world. We are a close-knit group (all 3500 of us)! We travel, and we love to stop in and visit rug hooking shops, teachers, designers, groups, rug shows, etc. We often plan a trip JUST to work in a visit or two with a new friend, an ATHA Chapter or school. Our Resource link gives travelers information on where to locate teachers, designers, rug hooking studios and shops.

ATHA conducts a Biennial every two years. The Hornets Nest Chapter from Charlotte, North Carolina, hosted the 2003 Biennial.

Our 2005 Biennial was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from August 24th through August 28th at the Nova Scotia Casino Hotel, on the waterfront. Our last biennial was September 12-15, 2007 in New Orleans, LA. Both the newsletter and this website will provide continuing updates on our biennials. We have instituted a new website section for the purpose of giving you the latest information about these exciting events. The next biennial will be in Louisville KY from Sep 23rd to Sep 27th, 2009. The theme is 'Horsin Around in Derby City'. Biennial Pages for 2009 are here! Watch for updates.

In an effort to keep you informed, this website will publish the index for each of our ATHA newsletters as they are published.

Please review each of our topic areas. Let us know how you like the website, what is helpful, and any additional information you would like ATHA to include.

We look forward to hearing from you!
