Horsin' Around at the 2009 Biennial

Louisville, Kentucky has long been a place for horsin' around.  The Kentucky Derby has run for 133 years.  Daisy Fay and Jay Gatsby met here in the pages of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  In fact, Daisy celebrated her wedding at the Seelbach Hotel.

Now you can horse around in Louisville, too!  From Wednesday, September 23 to Sunday, September 27, 2009, ATHA members will gather at the elegant Seelbach Hotel in historic downtown Louisville.  This biennial event is the first ever ATHA hosting collaboration as Districts 4 and 6 welcome everyone to the river city.  Member Melissa Elliott of Versailles, Kentucky created the winning logo seen here, and "Horsin' Around" fits the area perfectly.  Participants in the Biennial and their friends will also have a great time visiting the local museums and attractions such as the Louisville Slugger Museum, the legendary Churchill Downs, Kentucky Derby Museum, the Speed Art Museum, and Farmington (a lovely local home to JS Speed and stopping point for Abraham Lincoln.)  Louisville has also become an important venue for the field of fiber arts.  Located minutes away from the Seelbach is The Embroiderer's Guild of America which features two display galleries and a collection room of over 900 textiles.  Across the river in New Albany, Indiana, the Rhapsody in Rugs show at The Carnegie Center for Art and History will be open with an exciting exhibit of hooked rugs.

Area sightseeing might also include The Kentucky Horse Park, The Kentucky Bourbon Trail, The Mary Todd Lincoln House in Lexington, or perhaps one of the famous thoroughbred farms in the Bluegrass.

In 2009 we are celebrating some big events in Louisville; the 200th birthday of native son Abraham Lincoln, and of course, five great days of hookin' and horsin' around!  Please join us and plan to come to the 2009 Biennial in the Bluegrass!
