Our area has had two significant hooking events in the last month... the first was our 3rd annual Portland Area Hook-in, held on August 22nd. We started hosting this event because we realized that although some of the surrounding areas host annual events (Salem, Eugene, and Bend to name a few), the Portland area has not. So, this was our third and best one so far!
The second was the demonstrations that we held at the State Fair. Over the past years, our presence at the fair has gotten smaller and smaller, with almost no one entering rugs to be exhibited. This year, our outgoing ATHA leadership challenged us to make more of an effort to submit rugs to be displayed, and to have a continuing presence at the fair to demonstrate. Our participation in this was organized by our Salem Member, Deborah Cagle. I spent one day there, and I have to say, I was surprised at the ongoing attention our demonstrations and exhibit received. It was ongoing and continuous. Many, many people came by and expressed an interest in learning the craft. I can only say that I wish I had more pictures to share, but I believe we exhibited at least 50 pieces.
